What makes Bruce Almighty one of the best comedies of 2003?
Jim Carrey’s goofiness and Morgan Freeman’s awesomeness! Bruce Almighty is the tale of Bruce Nolan (Jim Carrey), a newscaster who ends up getting all the powers of the Almighty.
What would you do with all of God’s powers?
Ever imagined what it would be like to have all of God’s powers? Check out Bruce Almighty and play out the fantasy. Bruce Nolan is frustrated by his stalled advancement in the news world, covering only fluff pieces while his rival Evan (Steve Carell) gets the good gigs. This is one of Steve Carell’s first big movie appearances, and the first time I watched it I honestly didn’t recognize him. All of these factors combine to make this a comedy on my list of top comedies to watch.
This movie has a couple messages about religion, God, and power, but really it’s just about playing out the fantasy of power. It’s a nice little daydream of a movie, that won’t make you think too too hard while you laugh.
If you are looking for top pg-13 comedies, well, I’ve seen Bruce Almighty twice, and I liked it both times. It’s great for older kids as well as adults. It’s got Jennifer Aniston playing the love interest, and if you like Jim Carrey and Aniston, then you will like this movie. Carrey is at his best when he is playing goofy characters, and that’s exactly what he does in Bruce Almighty.
