Best Comedies of the year 2000

The best comedies of the year 2000 are sure to have you chuckling. Ah yes, those were the days. A new millennium dawned, and everyone was so full of hope! Y2k turned out to be a complete dud, and we got to go back to our daily lives without being obliterated by a nuclear strike. Wait… was Y2k a dud or did we just spend a whole lot of effort to make it safe, just like that pesky hole in the ozone layer? It’s getting late, and I am rambling. Enjoy the best comedies of the year 2000!

Full Review: Dude, Where’s my Car?
Subgenre: Stoner Comedy, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Runtime: 1h23m
Comedy Movie From: 2000
Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Seann William Scott

This movie is unashamedly stupid. It’s a stoner comedy following a couple of party animals who go a little too hard and end up misplacing their car. Simple, right? Not so much. This sci-fi, surreal romp is perfect for anyone who loves stoner comedies. It’s a nice, simple no-brainer with lots of laughs.

Full Review: Meet the Parents
Subgenre: Romantic Comedy
Runtime: 1h48m
Comedy Movie From: 2000
Cast:  Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo

They say first impressions happen in seconds. Unfortunately for Ben Stiller, his girlfriend’s dad is an ex-CIA agent who is determined to find any possible flaw in his princesses’ choice of a lover.

It sounds goofy, but this comedy really works. Some of the scenes are painfully awkward to watch. When disaster strikes, it strikes big. This is one of the top comedies of 2000, and has great performances by the leads.

Best Comedies of 2001

The entries for the best comedies of 2001, while lacking in quantity, are great in terms of quality. I absolutely adore Amelie, and Wet Hot American Summer was much more hilarious that I thought it would be. While I wrote a review of Wet Hot American Summer, I recommend going into it with no prior knowledge of what, exactly, it is!

Full Review: Amélie
Subgenre: Romanic Comedy
Runtime: 2h10m
Comedy Movie From: 2002
Cast:  Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz

Amélie is not just one of the best comedies of 2001. This beautifully done romantic comedy is one of the best movies ever created. Be warned, it is in French. I know some people hate watching movies with subtitles!

The movie follows the journey of Amélie, a charming prankster who loves to meddle in the ways of love. Amélie prefers to be a watcher rather than taking part in life, staying just detached enough to be safe. Her shyness has stopped her from forging connections, and she will have to experience vulnerability for a chance at love.

Full Review: Wet Hot American Summer

Runtime: 1h37m
Subgenres: Surreal Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2001
Cast:   Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Michael Showalter, Paul Rudd

This is a real head scratcher. A bizarre, strange parody of teen camp movies, Wet Hot American summer is an incredible zany flick. This top comedy of 2001 was so well received that a TV show by the same name was created recently – with the same actors! If you like weird, you’ll love this movie.

Best Comedies of 2002

Wow. I was absolutely blown away by Adam Sandler’s performance in Punch Drunk Love. The best comedies of 2002 include one of Adam Sandler’s greatest movies, along with a hilarious college drinking comedy that is full of light hearted laughs. One serious movie, and one delightfully light and raucus drinking comedy.

Full Review: Punch Drunk Love
Runtime: 1h34m
Subgenres: Dark Comedy, Black Comedy, Romantic Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2002
Cast: Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Philip Seymour Hoffman

This romantic comedy is dark and captivating. It is one of the best comedies of 2002 and shows what Adam Sandler is capable of when he is doing a movie out of love, not just for a paycheck. If you are used to Adam Sandler films like Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison, you are going to be shocked by the range of character Sandler can portray.

The story follows a lonely, socially awkward man who runs a novelty shipping store on his quest for love, while he is plagued and haunted by nefarious third parties.

 Van Wilder
Runtime: 1h30m
Subgenres: Drinking Comedy, College Comedy, Party Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2002
Cast:  Ryan Reynolds, Tara Reid, Tim Matheson

Enough alcohol to kill a Swedish curling team. Check. Intense partying. Check. Beautiful dames. Check. Van Wilder has all the components of a standard, funny drinking comedy. It follows in the footsteps of the great classic college comedies of the past.

This isn’t the most intelligent comedy ever created. But it is an absolutely hilarious drinking comedy.

Best Comedies of 2003

Did you know Malta joined the EU in 2003? That’s nothing to do with comedy movies, but it’s your JustComedies fact of the day. The best comedies of 2003 included an absolute gem of a film by Rowan Atkinson, and one of the best drinking comedies of all time. Of all time!

JustComedies Rating: 79%
Full Review: Bruce Almighty
Subgenres: Drama, Fantasy
Runtime: 1h41m
Comedy Movie From: 2003
Cast: Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman, Steve Carell

What would you do if you had all the powers of God Almighty? A stalling mid level career in TV leaves Bruce Nolan (Carrey) frustrated, annoyed, and angry at the heavens for his lot in life. So what does God do? Gives him exactly what he wishes for!

Full of slapstick comedy and classic Jim Carrey humour, this is a fantastic, fun PG13 comedy. It’s really not that deep of a movie. But it is a great look into taking responsibility for your own actions. Alright, mostly it’s fun watching Carrey mess around with his newfound powers.

Sorry that the rest of the list is not properly formatted yet! My site was lost to hackers, and I am resurrecting it from the dead. That takes time. It will be looking much nicer in just a little bit. Thanks so much for bearing with me!

Johnny English

Johnny English is basically Mr. Bean as James Bond. That’s all there is to it. So if that doesn’t sound hilarious to you, I say stay away.
Old School
I’m a huge fan of Will Ferrell, and he is perhaps my favourite part of this movie. It’s an awesome college comedy in general though.

I’ve watched all of my entries to the best comedies of 2004 more than once, and can quote most of them. Sideways is the darkest and most thought provocking, but all are hilarious.
