Best PG13 Rated Comedies

JustComedies Rating: 90%
Full Review: Anchorman
Subgenre: Just plain comedy!
Runtime: 1h38m
Comedy Movie From: 2004
Cast: Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd

I have watched Anchorman probably 10 times, and it never gets old. Set in the 1970s with the male dominated newsroom as its base, it stars Will Ferrell as the best anchorman San Diego has to offer. Things take a turn when a beautiful lady is introduced to the team, and the news crew reacts with typical over the top shenanigans. This is one of the best PG13 comedies around. Starring Will Ferrell, you know it’s going to be good.

Who will enjoy this movie?

Anyone who loves Will Ferrell, over the top humour and an absolutely hilarious role by Steve Carell needs to watch this movie!

JustComedies Rating: 79%
Full Review: Bruce Almighty
Subgenres: Drama, Fantasy
Runtime: 1h41m
Comedy Movie From: 2003
Cast: Jim Carrey, Jennifer Aniston, Morgan Freeman, Steve Carell

Jim Carrey suffers a few hard knocks, and he curses God, thinking he could do a much better job. When he is granted godly powers, he uses them in some pretty funny ways. I mean, can you blame the guy? When the power goes to his head, however, things spiral out of control…

Jim Carrey’s brand of humour is perfect for producing one of the best PG13 comedies around. It’s a great flick, from start to finish.

Who would love this movie?

Anyone who enjoys Jim Carrey’s brand of zany humour will love this movie. It’s got a lot of slapstick, some immature jokes, and really is all around a good PG13 comedy movie. Go into this knowing what to expect and you will thoroughly enjoy yourself.

Full Review: Blades of Glory
Runtime: 1h30m
Subgenre: Sports Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2007
Cast: Will Ferrell, Jon Heder, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett

This isn’t a hockey movie! This is figure skating, a sport that could only get manlier… if it had two men on the same team! Jon Here and Will Ferrell pair together like they were meant to be in this hilarious PG13 sports comedy.  Jon Heder kind of got stuck in the nerdy typecast after “Napoleon Dynamite”. Course, he does it well, and when his awkward nerdiness is paired with Will Ferrell’s over the top style in this comedy about competitive figure skating, good things happen.

Who will enjoy this comedy? If you liked Napolean Dynamity, you’ll enjoy the character Heder plays in this PG13 comedy. It doesn’t have too much thought involved in watching this movie. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the absolute ridiculousness of the entire affair!

Subgenre: Just plain comedy!
Runtime: 1h30m
Comedy Movie From: 1995
Cast: Adam Sandler, does it even matter who else? Fine,  Darren McGavin, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras

Adam Sandler plays the son of a wealthy hotel chain owner who spends his days drinking and acting immaturely. After a few too many mishaps, its looking like he won’t be inheriting the company- unless he can prove himself by retaking grades 1-12. Normally I try not to give away too much of the plot in these reviews. With an Adam Sandler movie, you should pretty much know what to expect.

Who will love this PG13 comedy?

If you like Adam Sandler, watch this movie. This is one of his classic comedies. No, it’s not going to be a gem of the critics. You know what you’re getting into! Sandler is a hilarious dude and this movie is all about his crass brand of humour. Either you like it, or you don’t.

Full Review: Date Night
Subgenres: Romance, Crime
Runtime: 1h30m
Comedy Movie From: 2010
Cast: Tina Fey, Steve Carell

I don’t want to spoil this one, so I will be brief. Boring couple, interesting night. Stars Steve Carell and Tina Fey as the couple in question. For this movie, I actually recommend that you do not read my full review. If you enjoy Tina Fey and Steve Carell, you will enjoy this movie, plain and simple. It’s one of those comedies that is better if you go into it having no idea what it is about!

JustComedies Rating: 69%
Full Review: Dinner for Schmucks
Subgenre: No subgenre, straight comedy!
Runtime: 1hr55m
Comedy Movie From: 2010
Cast: Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, Stephanie Szostak, Zach Galifianakis, Jemaine Clement

What do the ultra rich do to keep themselves entertained? They bring the most laughable losers to a dinner to mock them. Paul Rudd wants to move up in the corporate world, and it looks like he will need to use a rather peculiar man, played by Steve Carell, to advance.

Who will enjoy this movie?

Well, here is the thing. Although this movie makes my list of the best PG13 comedies and secured a place on my site, it was disliked by most critics and people watching it. If you enjoy the characters and want to watch a silly PG13 comedy, or are a bit bored and wondering what comedy to watch, then this is a good choice. It is a movie you might not have already seen that is worth a watch. The thing is, it is almost two whole hours! So it is a bit more of a commitment than some of the other movies on this list.

Full Review: Dude, Where’s my Car?
Subgenre: Stoner Comedy, Mystery, Sci-Fi
Runtime: 1h23m
Comedy Movie From: 2000
Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Seann William Scott

This is another movie that was panned by the critics. This ain’t no high society film. It’s a silly, immature romp and if you have the right mindset going into it, it’s a hell of a lot of fun. Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott are two party animals who wake up with massive hangovers, no memory, and a lot of blanks to fill as they search for their car.

Who will like this flick?

If you enjoy stoner comedies and watching a couple of party animals trying to figure out what the hell happened the night before, you will enjoy this no-thought, fun ride of a PG13 comedy movie. It is not that long, so hey, if you do not end up liking it at least you did not waste a whole two hours!

Full Review: Dodgeball
Runtime: 1h32m
Subgenres: Sports Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2004
Cast: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor, Rip Torn, Alan Tudyk

Dodgeball pits two gym owners against each other in a battle of who has the biggest balls. I’ve seen this one quite a few times, it holds up. Ben Stiller is really good as the nefarious owner of a mega-gym who will stop at nothing to crush his underdog competition.

Sports Comedies are some of the greatest PG13 comedies

If you like Dodgeball, then you might like some other sports comedies. Some of them are just as silly and ridiculous as Dodgeball. Others are a little more serious, and deal with more mainstream sports. While not all of my sports comedy reviews are of PG13 movies, you might enjoy checking out my list of the best sports comedies.

Full Review: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Subgenre: Just a great PG13 comedy!
Runtime: 1h45m
Comedy Movie From: 1986
Cast: Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara

This one is a 90%+ must watch PG13 comedy!

A mischievous young man decides that the day is too glorious to be spent in the classroom. Ends up having a memorable day while being chased down by his principle who is tired of his truancy. This is a freaking awesome comedy. Definitely suggest it for everyone who wants to watch a great PG13 comedy.

Full Review: Forrest Gump
Subgenre: Drama
Runtime: 2h22m (but it doesn’t drag out! This is an epic.)
Comedy Movie From: 1994
Cast: Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Sally Field

Ah, the feels. Forrest Gump is the tale of a man with more heart than brains who just happens to attend many moments in American history. Starring Tom Hanks, this one is intense. This is a 90%+ JustComedies must watch. It’s perhaps the best PG13 comedy in existance. This movie is a beautiful classic comedy that simply stands out as a masterpiece. This is not just one of the best comedies in the world. This is one of the best movies in the world.

Full Review: Happy Gilmore
Subgenre: Sports Comedy
Runtime: 1h30m
Comedy Movie From: 1996
Cast: Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen

Another classic Sandler flick! This guy is the king of PG13 comedies.

Adam Sandler is a wannabe hockey player who’s slapshot turns into an amazing drive and who’s hockey demeanor is out of place in the golfing world. Think stuck up golfers meet… Adam Sandler!

Full Review: Mean Girls
Subgenre: Just a PG13 comedy, no subgenre
Runtime: 1h35m
Comedy Movie From: 2004
Cast:  Lindsay Lohan, Jonathan Bennett, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey

High school cliques explored. Very quotable, and has some great scenes. This is when Lindasy Lohan had a “nice girl” persona and appeal. This PG13 comedy will take you right into high school in the early 2000s. Do the cliques feel current to you?

JustComedies Rating: 82%
Full Review: Meet the Parents
Subgenre: Romantic Comedy
Runtime: 1h48m
Comedy Movie From: 2000
Cast:  Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo

I wouldn’t watch this before going to meet a new girl’s parents for the first time. Could make you reconsider. Starring Ben Stiller. This comedy surprises in just how good it is. You would expect from the idea of a tough guy father in De Niro sizing up the man his daughter loves would be a bit hokey. This movie really holds itself together and comes out as a really solid PG13 comedy that is absolutely recommended.

JustComedies Rating: 67%
Full Review: Mr. Deeds
Subgenre: Classic Sandler Comedy (Isn’t sappy, but could be considered a romantic comedy as well)
Runtime: 1h37M
Comedy Movie From: 2002
Cast: Adam Sandler, Winona Ryder, John Turturro

Adam Sandler is a small town guy who looks to be inheriting a big town fortune. If you enjoy Sandler comedies, you will probably enjoy this addition to his massive resume of PG13 comedies. If you cannot stand his brand of low-brow humour, then keep perusing.

Mystery Men Movie Poster 1999

JustComedies Rating: 74%
Full Review: Mystery Men
Runtime: 2h1m
Subgenres: Action Comedy, Fantasy flick
Comedy Movie From: 1999
Cast: Ben Stiller, William H. Macy, Hank Azaria, Janeane Garofalo, Paul Reubens, Kel Mitchell

Not so super-heroes. If you enjoy parodies of super hero films, this one is just plain funny. It isn’t much of a thinking movie, but then again, most PG13 comedies do not require a whole lot of thought!

JustComedies Rating: 73%
Full Review: The Naked Gun
Runtime: 1h26m
Subgenres: Action Comedy, Police Comedy, Crime Comedy, Slapstick Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 1998
Cast: Leslie Nielsen, Priscilla Presley, Ricardo Montalban, George Kennedy

From the files of the police squad! Classic slapstick. If you enjoy puns, you will be sure to enjoy this zany PG13 comedy. This is one of those hapless detective style movies.

JustComedies Rating: 82%
Full Review: Rush Hour
Runtime: 1h38m
Subgenres: Police Buddy Comedy, Crime Comedy, Action Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 1998
Cast: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker

Apparently there is 2016 tv show based off of this movie… no idea how good it is. Somehow I do not think it will live up to the greatness of Jackie Chan in his movie making prime.

Jackie Chan makes fighting look like art. This is one of his best! Action packed, full of laughs, and an all around great PG13 comedy. The basic premise is that Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are paired together to fight crime. It’s a match made in heaven.

JustComedies Rating: 91%
Full Review: The Wedding Singer
Subgenre: Romantic Comedy
Runtime: 1hr35m
Comedy Movie From: 1998
Cast: Adam Sandler, Drew Barrymore

Had to go ahead and give this a 90%+ must watch. This is just a really sweet PG13 love story. For those who think that Adam Sandler is all crass, this is one of the best Adam Sandler movies around.

He plays a kind wedding singer who is right for the girl… but will she realize it? Thiscomedy is just a great watch from start to finish.

The Best PG13 Comedy Movie list is dominated by two actors

As you can see, Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller really dominated the PG13 line-up. Is it my fault if they both star in so many funny pg13 comedies? They were staples of my childhood, and I have to admit bias on quite a few of these movies as they were gems from growing up. I’ve seen many of them numerous times, and even re-watching them now they still hold weight. Hope my list of the best pg-13 comedies was helpful in finding you an awesome movie to watch 🙂

PS please do share this list with your friends if anyone is looking for a good comedy movie to watch! I know this list of the best PG13 comedies is not complete, so I truly do appreciate suggestions in a comment.
