Full Review: Amélie
Subgenre: Romanic Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2002
Cast: Audrey Tautou, Mathieu Kassovitz
Amélie is a sweet, touching romantic comedy. This French Romantic Comedy (prepare for subtitles if you don’t speak the language) follows the story of a young woman who suffers from incredibly shyness. Despite her nature, she has a huge heart, and wishes to experience the love she sees all around her in the world.
Amélie is the tale of a playful trickster who has spent her life watching things happen to other people, sometimes influencing secretly but never taking part. Falling in love leaves you incredibly vulnerable, and Amélie feels as though she could be hurt.
This romantic comedy has to be one of the sweetest movies in existence. Amelie stars Audrey Tautou as the mischievous and innocent Parisian girl who betters the lives of others through mischievous plans and tricks. Amelie is rated R for sexual content, but it is not a crude film. Keep in mind before watching- Amelie is a French film, so be ready for subtitles!

Full Review: Bull Durham
R Rated Romantic Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 1988
Cast: Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Trey Wilson
Bet you weren’t expecting to see a sports comedy on this list of the best comedy films!
Bull Durham is first and foremost a sports comedy, but has undertones of romance and love throughout the entire 108 minute run time. Kevin Costner plays Crash Davis, the experienced veteran pitcher who is brought in to teach rookie pitcher Ebby Calvin “Nuke” LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) the ins and outs of the game. Doesn’t sound like a romantic comedy? That’s where Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) comes in. An eccentric, pretty groupie who has a yearly romantic fling with a rookie on the team gets involved with “Nuke”, but finds herself falling more and more for the veteran Crash. It’s an R rated comedy, so be ready for nudity, sexuality, and profanity.
This one is not the sweetest romantic comedy. It is primarily a sports comedy movie.

Full Review: Forrest Gump
Runtime: 2h22m (but it doesn’t drag out! This is an epic.)
Comedy Movie From: 1994
Cast: Tom Hanks, Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Sally Field
Forrest Gump is an amazing romantic comedy, but it is so much more. Starring Tom Hanks as the dull-witted but huge hearted Forrest Gump, the romance comes as he falls in love with Jenny, played by Robin Wright. While Gump is not the brightest bulb of the lot, he does happen to be extremely athletically gifted. The movie follows Gump as he makes his way through some of the most influential moments in American History. This is not just one of the best romantic comedies of all time. It is one of the best movies ever made.

Full Review: Date Night
Subgenres: Romance, Crime
Comedy Movie From: 2010
Cast: Tina Fey, Steve Carell
If you like Tina Fey and Steve Carell, you are going to love this light, easygoing romantic comedy.
This is on my list of romantic comedies, but to be completely honest it is more of an action comedy that plays on a couple, played by Steve Carell and Tina Fey, who want to spice up their boring and comfortable domestic life after hearing the news of their good friend’s divorce. The enemy of passion is complacency! Date Night is a pg13 comedy which follows the couple on the craziest night of their life.

Full Review: Meet the Parents
Subgenre: Romantic Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2000
Cast: Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Teri Polo
Meet the Parents is a simple, sometimes juvenile romantic comedy starring Ben Stiller as male nurse Greg Focker. He is meeting his girlfriend’s (Teri Polo) parents for the first time, and nothing could prepare him for the force that is her father Jack (Robert DeNiro). An ex-CIA agent, he is bent on picking Greg apart to see if he is good enough for his daughter. Of course, nothing goes right for our hapless protagonist, leading him into predictable yet simply hilarious situations. Meet the Parents is a great pg13 comedy and an awesome romantic comedy as well.

Full Review: Punch Drunk Love
Subgenres: Dark Comedy, Black Comedy, Romantic Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 2009
Cast: Adam Sandler, Emily Watson, Philip Seymour Hoffman
When you think of Adam Sandler in a romantic comedy you probably think of him as a perpetual 16 year old, entranced by the thought of touching a breast. This one is surprisingly dark, and has some really emotional performances. I would recommend going into this one without knowing too much about it. With that in mind, I will leave you with a bit of information: this is an R rated romantic comedy, and if you are looking for something light and breezy, you should skip this one!
If you think Adam Sandler comedies are all immature, this one will change your mind.

Full Review: There’s Something About Mary
Subgenre: Romantic Comedy
Comedy Movie From: 1998
Cast: Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, Matt Dillon
Mary (Cameron Diaz) is that girl who everyone falls instantly in love with, that woman who can turn a man into jelly with a glance. This romantic comedy shows just how deeply men fall into her spell, and just how far they will go to win her love!
Our first contender for her love is the awkward Ted Stroehmann (Ben Stiller), who is up against the greasy, slimy PI Pat Healy (Matt Dillon). Where Ted tries his best to win her love using (mostly) conventional methods, some of the other characters will stop at nothing to become exactly the man they feel she will fall for. This is one of the funniest movies on our list of the best romantic comedies.
