Seth Rogen is comedy gold, and the best Seth Rogen movies star him often as a sarcastic and cynical character who always brings a laugh. The best Seth Rogen movies tend to be R rated comedies. This list of the best Seth Rogen movies will not just include movies that he stars in, but also movies where he plays smaller parts but adds his particular charm to the mix. Rogen is known for writing and staring in hilarious but often intellectually defunct comedies that tend to score upwards of the 7.0 range on IMDB.

1. Superbad (2007)

Superbad was my introduction to Seth Rogen. This R rated comedy about a trio of high school seniors which was co-written by Seth Rogen would have starred him if not for the fact that he looked a little too old to play a high school kid. Which was great news for Jonah Hill who had a breakthrough role in this film. Seth plays the type of cop that will confiscate kids liquor and then drink it himself, on duty. Superbad is one of Seth Rogen’s best films not just because of how hilarious his character is, but also because he was instrumental in writing this flick.

2. Pineapple Express (2008)

Pineapple Express is an R rated stoner comedy in which Seth Rogen plays a leading role as a weed smoking process server (the guys that serve people with legal notices) whose life gets pulled into increasingly absurd, dangerous, and hilarious situations when he is unlucky enough to witness a murder. Rogen wrote the screenplay and then starred in this film, once again showing his comedic chops. This isn’t just a stoner comedy: it’s an action flick with car chases, guns, explosions, and a whole lot more.

3. Knocked Up (2007)

Seth Rogen stars in Knocked Up, a comedy in which a drunken one night stand leaves a successful career woman and a stoner loser’s lives completely changed when Rogen’s character accidentally impregnates a one night stand.

4. Anchorman (2004)

Anchorman breaks the trend of the best Seth Rogen movies by being a pg13 comedy. The fact that Rogen played “Eager Cameraman” doesn’t stop this from being one of his best films. If you haven’t seen Anchorman, do yourself a favour and watch it right now. The fact that Rogen was able to land even a small role in this masterpiece was a great indicator that he was a rising star.

There you have it! The best Seth Rogen movies. I’m excited for Rogen to continue his acting career and, well, even though he has a great niche playing the cynically, darkly humourous stoner, it will be great to see him in other roles.
