Anchorman

Anchorman isn’t just one of the best comedies of 2004, it’s one of the best movies of 2004

Boy oh boy do I have a treat for you! Anchorman is a movie that stands up to re-watching over, and over, and over again.

Anchorman Movie Poster ComedyLove Will Ferrell? Hell yeah you do. Check out Anchorman. Will Ferrel is in full grandiose form in Anchorman as the larger than life newscaster from the 70s who’s newscasting skills are rivalled only by his suits. The first time I saw this movie, I didn’t know who Steve Carell was, but he is one of the best characters in this movie as Brick, a man who is dumb as a Brick.

This PG-13 comedy movie revolves around the newsroom in the 70s, with a group of male newscasters who have to deal with a woman (Christina Applegate) being hired. The newscasters reaction to having a beautiful woman in their midst is a tongue in cheek depiction of 1970s misogyny as second wave feminism takes the nation by storm. But that sounds too serious- don’t worry, this movie is not. It’s got Will Ferell being larger than life, jazz flute, and a huge brawl involving a hand grenade. It’s got a great bunch of friends who stick up for each other… even when they probably shouldn’t.
Not the brightest brick in the wall

You have to love Steve Carell as Brick. Somehow he got hired, and he is so out of touch with reality (mentally handicapped) that his perspective on things is hilarious. His best line? “Where did you get your clothes, the toilet store?” He says it so seriously and emphatically, and gets the better of a rival group of newscasters with it.

As well, there is a short appearance by Jack Black, who is a biker who has a run in with Ron Burgundy (Will Ferell).

You can’t go wrong with this movie. It’s one of those movies that keeps chugging along without slowing down or growing stale. It’s also got some scenes that will have you laughing your ass off… it’s not a stretch to see why this film is on my list of top comedies!

This movie is without a doubt of of the best movies of 2004, let alone one of the best comedies of 2004. If you have a funny bone in your body, you will love Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. It’s not deep and you won’t learn any valuable life lessons, but it’s funny as hell, and is near the top of my top comedies without a doubt!

Great news for Anchorman fans- Anchorman 2 is going to come out! Let’s hope they can somehow live up to the original.
